Driving Is Complex But Drive Safely - NRSA Officer To Drivers

Senior Planning and Programmes Manager of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Henry Asomani, has called on vehicle drivers to drive safely.

Road accident is a major problem facing Ghana as hundreds every month and thousands every year lose their lives or sustain serious injuries through accidents on various roads in the country.

Over 2,000 people, according to a road safety data, have died through road accidents in nine months and 11,659 injuries have been recorded.

Seven hundred and twenty-five (725) accidents involve commercial vehicles, over 900 motorcycle and 607 pedestrian knockdown deaths have also occurred.

In view of this, Henry Asomani, making submissions on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', has advised drivers to develop good driving behavior to avoid accidents.

''We should take road safety issues seriouly'', he said, stressing ''driving is one of the complex things we do in our everyday life because it needs [1] all your senses to be at work. Your visibility must be very good. Your logical reasoning should be very good. Your driving skills - defensive driving skills - must also be very good and then your personal mechanism should be very good''.
