10,000 CCTV Cameras Expected To Be Installed On Ghana's Streets By December 2021

Ten thousand surveillance cameras are expected to be installed across the nation by the end of this year, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed.

CCTV cameras have been placed on various roads to check crime-related activities and road offences.

This surveillance system has been described by many Ghanaians as a laudable approach to make Ghana safe.

In an interview on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, the Minister was impressed with the efforts to improve security in Ghana.

He noted that the cameras are a part of the government's intiatives to digitize the security sector, therefore by December this year, most parts of the country would be covered under surveillance system.

"One project, as part of this digitization - the security part, is the Alpha project; a target of 10,000 cameras. By the end of this year, I think by December, the target is that we will have 10,000 . . . by December, we will have 10,000 all connected to the central database," he said.

He made these comments while discussing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's address to shed light on the digital strides chalked by the Akufo-Addo government.
