Murder of Akua Denteh: NPP-USA Women’s Wing Commends Prez Akufo-Addo For His Prompt Intervention

The New Patriotic Party-USA Women’s Wing has commended President Akufo-Addo for taking personal interest in the gruesome murder of a 90-year-old woman, Akua Denteh at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality, accused of witchcraft by a local fetish priestess.

The President described the act as barbaric, unfortunate and a big disgrace to Ghanaians, and urged security personnel assigned to the case to ensure swift attention on the incident.

President Akufo-Addo also pledged to make a personal contribution to the Akua Denteh Foundation memorable to the sad incident and also ensure that such an act was never repeated.

The Women’s Wing was thankful that tremendous progress was made on the apprehension of those involved and pleaded that no one should be spared regardless of their background, if found culpable to serve as a deterrent to all and sundry.

"We wish to commend the President for listening to the plight and cries of mothers, women, civil societies, churches and the host of Ghanaians who condemned the act and call for swift and stricter punishment for the perpetrators of such heinous crime against one another", they said.

Mrs Barbara Boafo, Women's Organizer of the Wing who said this in a statement signed and copied to the GNA deemed the President’s directives to the security personnel to fast track investigations as a step in the right direction for the vulnerable in society.

She emphasised that violence, dehumanizing, maltreatment and other forms of atrocities against women has no place in Ghana in particular and the world at large.

“The action of the perpetrators is unacceptable which must be condemned with the contempt it deserves and going forward, we must guard against it and make sure that it does not happen again", she emphasized.

Mrs Boafo further called for a paradigm shift, especially at a time when issues of inequality and affirmative action have been overwhelmingly welcomed.

She also commend all stakeholders, especially the Chairman of the Savannah Regional Security Council who initiated a foundation in honour of Madam Akua Danteh, and assured the nation of the progress being made towards the apprehension and prosecution of suspects involved in the murder of the 90-year-old woman.
