UPDATED....Mrs Rawlings Bows Out Of 2020 Prez Race

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings has bowed out of the election 2020 race.

Shocking as the news may seem, particularly with just fourteen (14) to the general elections, Peacefmonline.com is reliably informed that her decision could be linked to the death of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The former president died after a short illness at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on November 12, 2020.

Mrs Rawlings is among the 12 personalities who qualified to contest the presidential elections after the EC’s rigorous assessment process.

She is one of only three females on the ballot in the running to govern the country.

Sources say the NDP flagbearer has already informed the EC ahead of her decision which is expected to be publicly announced by close of today.

Still In The Race!

But at a press conference on Monday afternoon, Secretary-General of the NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, dismissed the report and urged the media to treat it with the contempt it deserves. He was emphatic that Mrs Rawlings has not pulled out of the race.

We the executives in keeping with tradition have not approached this discussion with her, as we know and understand that she needs time and space to grief.

“We will like to inform the general public that our campaign is ongoing and our parliamentary candidates are out there canvassing for votes and our regional and constituency executives as well as supporters and sympathizers are still campaigning."

“It is our wish that she could gather the strength to lead our party. We intend not to glorify the wishes of our detractors,” he stated.
