Former NDC Regional Chairman and a social commentator, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has warned political leaders against inciting the public to riot during the December general elections.
Allotey Jacobs, on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, stated emphatically that no leader nor person who orchestrates violence on the day will be allowed to leave the country.
“If trouble happens right now, nobody will go scot free or think you will engineer people to get on the streets to do the unthinkable while you run, that will never happen”, he stated.
“This country belongs to all of us”, he advised.
He made these comments in relation to the NDCs refusal to sign a peace pact to ensure peace and stability in the country before, during and particularly after the elections, and a request by the opposition party for a forensic examination of the voter’s register.
The National Democratic Congress has accused the Electoral Commission of not having a credible register.
Director of Elections and IT of the party, Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, demanded that a forensic audit or parliamentary investigation into be held, stating irregularities in the register.
These irregularities, the party says were recorded during the voters’ exhibition exercise which ended on August 27.
“The Electoral Commission of Ghana refused to release the voters’ register to the NDC on time ahead of the exhibition exercise”, he said in a statement, stressing “it’s obvious the register has deliberately been tampered with!”
The NDC has also refused to sign a peace pact to ensure peace and stability in the country before, during and particularly after the elections.
