At a time when the coronavirus outbreak was causing panic in the country, companies were struggling to survive and things were so uncertain, the last thing media personality/actress Naa Ashorkor expected was to lose her job.
However, that is exactly what happened when she received a letter from her employers then, the Multimedia Group, terminating her contract in May.
It was obviously a blow to Naa, who hosted Strong and Sassy and Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM and while many people sympathised with her after she broke the news on social media, the mother of two has told Graphic Showbiz the experience rather fired up her faith in God.
“It was definitely a hard moment when my contract at Multimedia was terminated but I was not shaken because I believed that God had other plans for me so I was just waiting for the plans to manifest.
“I knew that something better was coming my way because I always believed that when something good ends in your life, something better will come so my job at Multimedia was good and great but when it ended, I knew something better was on its way.
“That clearly inspired my Facebook post announcing my termination of contract. My faith worked for me and in less than two months, I was back on air,” she said.
The period between Naa Ashorkor’s exit from Multimedia and when she got a new offer was short and that has sparked speculation of her being in talks with her new employers while still at her old job.
Responding to the issue, The Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later, the actress said her new bosses only called after her contract was terminated.
“That is never true because I had a call from Asaase Radio after my exit from Multimedia and not before. When I was at Multimedia, it had my 100 per cent focus and loyalty there so I wasn’t looking elsewhere.
“But as I said earlier, God came in quickly for me and so it may appear that I was already in talks with them which was not the case at all. All the same, the period I was home afforded me more time to spend with my family and children and also take good care of myself,” she noted.
Naa Ashorkor mentioned that though she had always had multiple sources of income, she had appreciated her other ventures since life is weird and unpredictable.
“Nobody knows tomorrow so unless your job takes more of your physical, emotional and mental time, you should consider other things. Never put all your eggs in one basket; even if it is your own basket, never put all your eggs in it.
“I’ve always had multiple streams of income since I was at TV Africa and always did something else aside from my day job and as coronavirus stares in our faces, it has become more than necessary to seek more sources of income,” she said.
Currently, Naa Ashorkor hosts Between Hours on Asaase Radio, a show that mixes live listener interactions, games, sing-along sessions with great music and according to her it is meant to put the target audience at ease whilst ensuring they are prepped up for the rest of the day’s work.
“Be My Co-host is a segment we have on Between Hours and it is intended to get the audience involved in the programme and so far, it is bringing us good numbers,” she said.
