Artiste manager, Kwesi Ernest says not signing contracts with his former artistes has been his greatest and childish mistake since he got into managing musicians.
“I am sure I would have been the richest manager in Ghana if I had signed contracts with my artistes.

"I worked with all my heart and never thought of putting pen to paper and signing contracts with the more than 15 artistes I worked with. My focus was to make the artiste the biggest star so that in the future we would all reap the benefits,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

According to Kwesi Ernest, who is the CEO of Media Excel, and has managed acts including Praye, Azigiza Jnr, Abena Ruthy, Becca, Joyce Blessing, and King David said he invested so much in his former artistes but because there were no contracts when they left he lost out big time.                                     

“Trust me I could have invested that money into other things but because I love to see talents grow I did all this and I was left with virtually nothing.

"I recently started signing contracts because of my past experience. It hurts when you put so much into an artiste who no one knew and make them popular only for them to leave,” he said.                                      

He explained that a lot goes into managing artistes which most people do not know.

“I first make sure the artistes and their songs are known everywhere and the second is I make sure their stage performances are top-notch and that can be testified to with some of the artistes I managed,” he said.                                           

Kwesi Ernest who currently manages SP Sarpong and Francis Adjei encouraged any artiste manager to make sure to sign contracts with artistes before they start working.

“When there is a contract, the manager and the artiste work better. If there is a contract both parties know they need to work hard,” he added.
