Tokyo Olympics 2020: Ghana’s Sulemanu Tetteh Progresses After Beating Rodrigo From Dominican Republic

Ghanaian boxer Sulemanu Tetteh brought smiles to the faces of many after defeating Rodrigo Marte from the Dominican Republic.

Tetteh had to defeat Rodrigo in a split decision of 3:2 in round 32 of the Men’s Fly 48-52Kg competition at the ongoing Olympics in Japan’s capital Tokyo.

Sulemanu Tetteh had won gold at the 2012 ECOWAS Games held in Accra while Rodrigo Marte also took home a gold medal in the flyweight category in 2019.

Despite posing as a tough opponent, Rodrigo Marte couldn’t stand the might of Sulemanu Tetteh who eventually emerged as the winner to progress to round sixteen of the competition.

Sulemanu Tetteh will now meet Veita Yosbany of Cuba in the round of 16 on Saturday 31st July 2021.

Meanwhile, the next Ghanaian boxer to step in the ring will be 19-year old Samuel Takyi who will take on Jean Carlos Pachito Caicedo of Ecuador in the featherweight division on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

Tetteh’s victory is expected to build him up for the task against Yosbany and hopefully come out victorious while Samuel Takyi is also expected to draw inspirations from Tetteh’s victory and make Ghana proud on Wednesday.
