Stop Bastardizing The Black Stars - Egyapa Mercer Tells Ghanaians

Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer says Ghanaians should stop scolding the Black Stars players for failing to put up a good performance in the AFCON currently happening in Cameroon.

The Black Stars have arrived in Ghana after their disastrous 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana’s contingent including Coach Milovan Rajevac but without the players namely Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Andrew Kyere-Yiadom, Joseph Wollacot and Kamal Deen Sulemana arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after they were ousted from the tournament by the minnows, Comoros.

The team suffered a 3-2 defeat to Comoros in their last match.

Some Ghanaian soccer fans and sports critics have called on the GFA to sack Milovan Rajevac while others also don't understand why the team should be congratulated for returning home following an early exit.

But to Egyapa Mercer, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, the players still deserve love of the nation.

Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', he said; ''It's painful but I feel that throwing the baby away with the bath water will not be the solution...Let's not bastardize the boys. Of course, they didn't do well but I don't think that the right way is to condemn them that such that they should go back to wherever they came from. But this is their home; they are Ghanaians. They went there on our behalf to represent us. Unfortunately, they did not live up to expectation. So, we throw them away?''

He charged Ghanaians not to lose confidence in the Black Stars.
