Prosper Nartey Ogum Ends 11 Months Association With Kotoko After Tendering In Resignation

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Nartey Ogum has submitted his resignation to the club to end his 11 months association with the Ghana Premier League Champions, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The former West African Football Academy coach has severed ties after guiding the club to clinch the 2022-23 season.

The University lecturer announced his decision to step down during a board meeting last month.

But he has now moved a step further to make it official by submitting his resignation to the club's top hierarchy to end his association with the Ghanaian giants.

Reports say Ogum's decision to unilaterally end his contract with the Porcupine Warriors after only one season came as a surprise to both the club’s management members and the board following disagreement over the recruitment of players for the forthcoming season.

A meeting was called to review the club’s performance and also discuss matters including player recruitment, the youth teams and their upcoming campaign in the CAF Champions League.

However, there was some disagreement over a request to recruit 17 new players and sack 10 over poor performance, which reportedly upset the coach who subsequently stepped down as head of the technical team.

“During the meeting with the board to discuss his report to the management, there was a disagreement over his request to sack 10 players and recruit 17 new players, including four centre-backs.

“It was at the point when some members of the board questioned the justification of some of his requests that Coach Prosper Ogum said he had a two-year contract but wanted to move on with his life, so the club must look for a new coach,” explained Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, the Administration and Operations Manager of Kotoko to Graphic last month.

Although there were some outstanding issues relating to unpaid salary arrears, it has been settled following talks with the management of the club.

In addition to the salary arrears, Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum will be paid a huge bonus for helping the club emerge as champions of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

Meanwhile, the coast is now clear for Asante Kotoko to announce the appointment of a new head coach ahead of next season.

An assistant coach of the home-based senior national team, Black Galaxies, 44-year-old Ogum was Kotoko’s 13th substantive coach in the last decade.
